The Rio Grande Wild Turkey is smaller then its cousin, the Eastern. They originated in the Rio Grande Valley. They are very similar to the broad breasted bronze but are smaller. Their overall body sheen is a pale copper and the tail has a yellowish tip. Most males will have beards upon maturity. Toms will weigh from 17 to 21 pounds. Unlike their domestic cousin, the broad breasted bronze, they will reproduce naturally and do not require artificial insemination.
